Interhall Football

Excerpt from chapter 11:

"The exploits of the varsity football program are chronicled in countless books and films. However, out of the spotlight of  the spirited play of the varsity and the equally-spirited support it received from the student body, was perhaps the genesis of it all- Interhall football at Notre Dame – namely, students from the various residence halls fielding their own teams and playing tackle football against each other.

From the outset of the decade of the 1890’s, passion for football would continue to grow at Notre Dame and across the country. In November of 1891, the Scholastic proclaimed: 'Football is the order of the day. The eleven must get to work! Only twelve days more.' "
